Generally speaking, higher temperatures produce shorter infrared wavelengths. In automotive refinishing, the key difference between long-, medium-, and short-wave infrared is the depth to which each penetrates the paint film and the level of molecular excitation it creates. Infrared curing offers a major advantage: it heats only the objects within its direct line of radiation, delivering energy precisely where it’s needed. As infrared energy excites the molecules in both the paint layer and the substrate, heat transfers back through the coating via conduction. Short-wave infrared goes a step further by enabling two-way curing: radiated energy cures from the surface inward, while conducted heat moves outward from the substrate. This dual action produces exceptionally thorough through-cure results. Because short-wave infrared reaches high temperatures quickly, it dramatically accelerates drying compared to traditional convection methods. Conventional curing often leads to surface skinning before solvents can escape, risking solvent pop (a pinhole defect). Short-wave infrared avoids this by curing deeply and uniformly. Another significant benefit is efficiency. Infrared curing uses far less energy than convection-based systems, delivering faster, higher-quality results at lower operating costs. This combination of speed, performance, and efficiency is what sets our units apart. Features: Made from aluminium alloy and 304 grade bright stainless steel reflectors.
